I am new to eskrimas I live in very surburban part of central pennsylvania with little time to travel for training. I started learning on my own from tapes Greg Alland series, Remey Presis, and Paul Vanak. I was training 2 hrs a day at the gym i attend and people started asking me to join in. I now have 10 people who joined me none with experience. Can anyone recomend training tapes beyond what i have and some good drills with hand and feet movement. The people with me are very static I would like more interactive training tools. This message has been sent by the Portage Area School District. While I am not personally familiar with Crafty's program of instruction thru videos (Marc, are you still doing that?) I suspect it is well designed and might be what you are looking for. In general I would never recommend trying to learn FMA from a video. Where videos are handy is once you have several years of face-2-face training under your belt, videos help bring new/different ideas and concepts to you that you might not see otherwise. Many of the most well known and well respected instructors in the world regularly travel throughout the US conducting seminars. It is an easy way to get a great deal of instruction in a small amount of time. One web site that lists many seminars is www.fmadigest.com, or you can visit a particular instructor's or group's own site, if they have one. If you are not already familiar with box patterns, I have a small article on their basics in the March issue of Inside Kung Fu, and I should have a video demonstration of the same basic pattern on my web site, www.lanhou.com, within the week. By any chance are you or any of the people you now train with attending the Arnold Sports Festival in Columbus this weekend? I would be more than willing to meet with anyone and share what I can with them.
